Sandra Malawer, LPC, LMFT, is the Director of the Center. We serve Northern Virginia including McLean, Great Falls, Vienna, Falls Church, Fairfax, Chantilly, Arlington, Clifton, Springfield, Sterling, Potomac Hills, Countryside, Leesburg, Middleburg, Loudoun and surrounding communities. She was appointed to the Virginia Board of Counseling by Virginia Governor Tim Kaine and continues to serve on this state board.

THE FAMILY THERAPY CENTER views counseling as a way to assist clients in defining their critical concerns, identifying their strengths, and achieving their goals. Solutions are developed by formulating specific actions -- coaching you to achieve your true potential. Counseling is a positive action that empowers people. Allowing them to gain control of their lives. In today's rapidly changing society change is constant. It is perpetual and pervasive. Change creates uncertainty that impacts personal and professional relationships. Counseling empowers people to make positive choices, enhance their relationships, be successful, and reach their goals. We specialize in all aspects of marriage and family counseling including premarital, couples and individual counseling that often involves cross-cultural issues and developing better communication skills. Licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia and strict confidentiality at all times.
The Center is located in central Mclean, Virginia, at 1313 Vincent Place, McLean, Virginia 22101. (703) 893 - 9063. The Director of the Center is Sandra Malawer, a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT) by the Commonwealth of Virginia and a National Certified Counselor. She was appointed to the Virginia Board of Counseling by Virginia Governor Tim Kaine and continues to serve on this state board. Her graduate education was at the Johns Hopkins University, she completed additional training at Oxford University, and has been in practice since 1986. Security clearance & federal EAP. Her specializations include Marriage and Family Therapy, Divorce and Custody, Family with Learning Disabled Children (including "Attention Deficit Disorder"), Family Planning, Problem Pregnancies, Female Adolescents, Post-Partum Depression, Parent - Child Conflict, Anxiety Disorders (including "Obsessive Compulsive Disorder") and Career Stress (in entrepreneurial and corporate settings). She provides pre-marital, marital, pre-divorce and post-divorce counseling. Individual, couples and family counseling are available. She provides also post-divorce parenting strategies and court ordered counseling for couples experiencing domestic abuse.
Fees for counseling services charged by the Center and its staff are comparable to those of other private mental health therapists in Northern Virginia and the metropolitan Washington, D.C., area. Phone counseling available in conjunction with personal appointments. Therapy and counseling services are covered by most insurance carriers. Our cancellation policy requires 24-hour notice.
